On the night of March 12, Pakistan’s digital payments ecosystem took a big step forward with the official launch of Google Wallet. This new Google mobile payment service aims to make digital transactions easier and safer nationwide.

The platform enables users to conduct seamless online, in-app, and contactless payments using mobile devices, highlighting significant progress in Pakistan’s Fintech landscape.

How to Use Google Wallet in Pakistan

Getting started with Google Wallet is relatively easy. Users can download the Google Wallet app from the Google Play Store. Users need an NFC-enabled smartphone to make contactless payments using Google wallets.

If a compatible debit or credit card is linked to their Google account, it will automatically appear in the app. Otherwise, users can manually add a card by tapping “Add a card” into the app interface. After accepting the banking terms & conditions and completing the verification process, the card will be signed and ready for use in Google Wallet.

Supported Banks and Cards in Google Wallet

Google Wallet in Pakistan supports a range of debit and credit cards issued by leading financial institutions. Currently, the service is compatible with:

  • Bank AlFalah (Visa and Mastercard debit and credit cards)
  • Bank of Punjab (Mastercard credit cards)
  • Faysal Bank Noor (Mastercard debit cards)
  • HBL (Visa and Mastercard debit and credit cards)
  • JazzCash (Mastercard debit cards)
  • Meezan Bank (Visa and Mastercard debit cards)
  • UBL (Visa and Mastercard debit cards)

Additional banks, including Allied Bank, Easypaisa Digital Bank, JS Bank, and Zindigi, are expected to integrate with Google Wallet soon.

Enhanced Features and Merchant Integration

In addition to saving payment cards, Google Wallet allows users to add boarding passes from airlines such as Batik Air and Thai Airways, providing real-time departure time updates and gate changes for a smoother travel experience.

Similarly, online traders in Pakistan like Ionic, GUL Ahmed, Sana Safinaz, J., and KE have integrated with Google Pay via PayFast, facilitating seamless online shopping. Users can now conveniently store digital items such as boarding passes, bus and train tickets, and event passes within their Google Wallet.

Security Measures

Google Wallet prioritizes security, using industry-standard tokenization to safeguard every transaction. Each payment employs a unique, device-specific alternate card number associated with a dynamic security code. Users must verify their identity before adding a card, and all sensitive data is protected through screen lock protection. In case of a lost or stolen device, the “Find My Device” feature enables users to lock or erase their information remotely.

With its robust security measures and user-friendly design, Google Wallet is set to transform how Pakistanis make transactions, offering a quicker, more secure, and more efficient payment experience for both online and in-person purchases.
